Chapter Meeting

January 18, 2008

 

Members Present: Lori Walters, Nancy Thorndal, Barry Hegg, Bruce Carlson, Clotine Frear, Dean Steve Sellers, Holly Schweigert, Brett Shewey, Brita Leach, Dave Anderson, Pete Budzielek, Mark Harvey, and Leisha Woltjer representing Gethsemane Cathedral.  Members Absent:  Kathy Hawken, Carrie Simonson

 

We began with Evening Prayer in the Chapel led by Dean Steve Sellers.

 

Meeting Called to Order:   5:45pm

Adoption of Agenda: Agenda Passed

Minutes from December 20, 2007: Motion to accept as written:  Dave Anderson Seconded: Barry Hegg  Motion Carried

 

Dean’s Report:   There was a good turnout for “Safeguarding of God’s Children” seminar.  Dean Sellers is requesting that all Chapter members attend a training session.  Lent is coming!  He is adding 5 services to the church schedule for Lent.  The volunteer clergy will be picking up the additional services.  Dean Sellers is continuing with his ‘Welcome Wagon’ visits.  We have seen visits from the new families. North Dakota Diocese is looking at creating some kind of presence in West Fargo.

 

Senior Warden’s Report: No additional information concerning Nursery issue.  Capital Campaign will be starting next week with the forming of the Committee.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Brett presented the treasury reports. The automatic pledges have increased, along with more credit card pledges.  Gethsemane received a $5,000 gift towards the capital campaign.  .  Brett presented the 2008 Budget, which is not a balanced budget. But, the non-pledge offerings are increasing and are believed to make up the budget deficit for 2008.

Motion to present the budget as written to the Annual Meeting: Clotine Frear  Seconded: Lori Walters Motion Carried

Motion to approve the Treasurer’s report as written:  Clotine Frear Seconded:  Lori Walters.  Motion Carried.

 

Junior Warden’s Report:  Pete presented the report for the Annual Meeting. He is still waiting for additional bids to come in for the siding of the Cathedral.

 

Cathedral Coordinator:  Sale of the Van is in progress.  Leisha has had several interested buyers. 

There many upcoming events at the Cathedral in February. Please review the calendar in packets.

Does the Cathedral have a maintenance contract?  Yes.  Barry will give Leisha the contacts that he has.

Discussion regarding the Ash Wednesday Services.  Why isn’t the 7:00pm service on the schedule.  Decided to try a 7:00am services and just have the 3 services at 7:00am, 12:00noon, and 5:30pm.

 

Old Business: 

Nursery – discussed during Senior Warden’s Report. Further discussion involved presenting the idea to Kim (running the preschool) if she would be interested in running the Nursery.  Leisha will talk with her about this possibility.

Capital Campaign – discussed during Senior Warden’s Report.

 

New Business:

The Chapter accepted Nancy Bjerke’s resignation from Funeral Coordinator.  Chapter members will ponder possible members of the congregation to replace Nancy in this position.
