The Columbarium at Gethsemane Cathedral
The Church has a long tradition of laying its members to rest with reverence and care in special places set apart in cathedrals. In keeping with that tradition, Gethsemane Cathedral established a special place for the care and safekeeping of cremated remains in it Columbarium.
In recent years, with the rising cost of funerals and interments, people have been searching for an alternative to ground burial that offers beauty and simplicity. Cremation and the memorialization of remains is one such alternative. Cremation provides a simple, clean and quick return to nature, accomplishing in a few hours what otherwise takes years.
Gethsemane Cathedral built its columbarium in the Chapel of
the Resurrection to meet the needs of its congregation and the needs of the
members of the Diocese of North Dakota--a place where the lives of many could be
memorialized. The ashes laid to rest there are
reverently
commended to the glory of God and their presence reminds the living that one day
we too will all experience the Resurrection.
The Columbarium, therefore, is not only a place of interment for the members of the Cathedral; it is also open to all members of the Diocese of North Dakota and their families.
