Foyers

"Make new friends, but keep the old," describes what happens when you become a Foyers’ participant.  Foyer, from the French word meaning hearthside, implies the warmth of a small group of close friends or family members sharing a common love and concern for each other.  Foyers was first established in 1967 by the Very Reverend H.C.N. Williams, Provost (Dean) of Coventry Cathedral in England as a ministry of reconciliation.

Done jointly with St. Stephen’s in North Fargo, Foyers groups meet once a month for a meal in each other’s homes, with the members taking turns as hosts, for about two hours of Christian fellowship. There are no programs, projects assigned topics or Bible study. The members simply get to know each other as part of the larger community of faith.

In January and July a large group meeting takes place where participants find out who they will be sharing food and fellowship with for the next five months.  Foyers groups are random assignments of 7-9 people so that the full diversity of our congregations can get to know each other.  Newcomers may be added to a Foyers group during the year and be assured of a warm welcome.  At the end of each five month season, participants are reassigned to new groups, and the Foyers cycle begins again.
