The Rt. Rev. Michael Smith, Bishop of North Dakota

The Rt. Rev. Michael G. Smith is the eleventh bishop of North Dakota.  An enrolled member of the Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma, he served churches in Oklahoma and Minnesota before coming to North Dakota.  He is a member of the Episcopal Council on Indigenous Ministries.

Smith and his wife, the Rev. Lisa White Smith, are the parents of three children and the grandparents of one.  He holds degrees in psychology, music, social work and theology from Oklahoma State University, Marymount College of Kansas, the University of Oklahoma and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.  Bishop Michael places a high priority on the baptismal ministries of all the people of God, evangelism, youth ministry, the diaconate, Benedictine spirituality and theological education.  His desire is that each of the congregations of the Diocese of North Dakota becomes "community of disciples who make other disciples."

Fr. Steve came to Gethsemane Cathedral in September of 2007, after serving churches in the state of Texas since 1986.  A former investigative newspaper reporter and editor, he is the author of "Terror on Highway 59," published by Texas Monthly Press in 1984.  His book was subsequently produced as a made-for-television movie by the CBS network in January of 1989, starring Rick Schroder and George Dzunda.  Fr. Steve and his wife Dixie have been married 20 years.  They have served parishes in Austin, Houston, College Station, Marshall, and Lubbock, Texas.  His daughter Casey, from his first marriage, lives and works in Austin, Texas.  Fr. Steve is a musician (he plays 10 musical instruments), a historian, a poet, a Christian clown, and a sports enthusiast.

The Rev. Terry Overbo, Deacon
Terry was ordained a deacon in June 2007.  She is involved in many aspects of the church such as assisting with Sunday and Wednesday services and coordinating acolytes but her main area of ministry is working with youth.

The Rev. John Peterson, Assisting Priest (retired)
After 5 decades as a Lutheran minister, Fr. John was received as an Episcopal Priest and joined the Gethsemane assisting clergy in November 2006.  He assists in teaching Christian education classes. 

The Rev. Charlotte Robbins, Deacon

Charlotte was ordained a deacon in June 2007.  Her areas of interest include pastoral care, outreach, and healing ministry.  She is co-chair of Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) for the diocese, and attends Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).  She is also a member of the Order of St. Luke (OSL), and Church Women United.  She enjoys serving the church in many different aspects. 

The Rev. Crystal Towers, Deacon
Crystal was ordained a Deacon in June 2007.  Deacon Crystal Towers is active in various organizations within the Fargo community. She serves as a liaison for "First Choice Clinic" and is a volunteer for "Make-A-Sound Choice." Rev. Towers enjoys teaching Sunday school, working with youth, providing pastoral care to the elderly and veterans. Her areas of ministry are Post Deployment Veteran's Families, Campus Ministry and Youth Ministry.

The Rev. Duffy Williams, Assisting Priest

Duffy was ordained a deacon in May 2002 and a priest in May 2003. He helps with hospital and nursing home visitation, assists with Sunday services and presides once a month at an Ecumenical service at Waterford Retirement Community.

Leisha Woltjer, Administrator

Leisha has been the Finance Manager for the Diocese of North Dakota since January 2009 and prior to that she was the Gethsemane Cathedral Coordinator.  Recently, she was also appointed the Administrator for Gethsemane Cathedral.  She lives in Sabin, MN.  In her spare time, Leisha loves to spend time with her family and friends, and enjoys decorating, gardening, and outdoor activities. 

Peggy Johnson, Organist Andover Educator

Peggy Johnson was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Organ Performance from the University of Cincinnati (College-Conservatory of Music) as a student of Dr. Roberta Gary.

Dr. Johnson is in demand as a recitalist and lecturer.  In the fall of 2009, she will serve on the faculty at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN where she will teach music theory.  She also serves as board and faculty member for the nationally recognized Leadership for Parish Musicians Program, this year teaching courses in Resources for Ministry and Leadership of Congregational Song.  Concurrently, she serves as Dean of the Red River Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists as well as District VI Convener (State of North Dakota).

Along with teaching courses in music theory, organ performance, and church music, she regularly presents workshops on topics such as newly composed music for the organ, Mozart's "Epistle Sonatas", and church music program development. And in 2008 Dr. Johnson presented a workshop entitled "Sunday Comes Every Seven Days" for the national convention of the American Guild of Organists. Her most recent concert appearances include the US, Denmark, and in the Czech Republic.

And, in addition to maintaining a private studio and her active concert career, Dr. Johnson has been certified by the Andover Educators through which she teaches and coaches body-mapping and regularly offers one-, two-, and five-day body-mapping workshops entitled “What Every Organist Needs to Know About the Body” and “What Every Musician Needs to Know About the Body”.  She has also published the article “What Every Organist Needs to Know About the Body” as an introduction to her work in bodymapping in The American Organist (April 2006).
